DETAILS OF ITEM

This is an antique early 19th Century Japanese noodle sauce dipping cup called a Soba Choko and it measures 2.63 inches high by an unusual oval shape that is 3.5 inches by 3.13 inches in diameter. Well known for using a grayish cobalt blue color in the hand painted design, this style is referred to as Japanese Sometsuke. It is an Imari piece that is a world famous kiln region of Japan. It features a repeated pattern of hand painted thistle surrounding the cup with a geometric design around the inside rim and a flower or plant on the inside base.

The condition is extremely good especially for its age from 1800 to 1850 (later Edo Era in Japan).
