Early Hvy Zuni Horace Iule (d.) 4 Pc Ranger Belt Buckle Set:
An early heavy Zuni 4 piece Ranger belt buckle set with 11 natural turquoise sets by deceased famed multi-award winning Zuni silversmith Horace Iule, c. 1901-1978, noted for creating the Knifewing figure in silver jewelry in 1928, the first master Zuni artisan. The Knifewing figure is included on the buckle and the tip of this Ranger set. Also included is a tan leather belt that shows wear but is still functional, or one could change this set to a different longer or shorter belt. The buckle, keepers and tip can accommodate a 1" wide belt. The buckle alone weighs 52 grams and measures 2 5/8" X 2", the keepers measure 1" X 1/2" X 1/2" deep, the tip with Knifewing figure measures 1 1/2" X 1". Total belt with Ranger set weighs 111 grams. Current belt measures 1 1/8" wide X 40" length, from end of tip to end of buckle. It isembossed"34" on the leather in back of the snaps. John Adair described Horace Iule as "versatile and skilled" and a master of many elements of construction techniques, including casting and lapidary. Buckle is marked "H. Iule" on the reverse, guaranteed coin silver or higher. Excellent vintage, collectible and wearable condition.
