Early Large Stamp M.s.a. Marked Marbles Ideal Knife 1903 Full Stag 7" Blade For Sale
Dating from 1903, this large stamp M.S.A. has a dash between Michigan
and U.S.A and has the following dimensions; blade back 1/4" thick, exact
length of blade 6 7/8", stag handle ( slightly over ) 4 1/2", total
length of knife 11 3/8". There are 23 red and black spacers with brass
in between. The blade is very hefty and strong with a great smooth
finish. It's edge has been sharpened, but not abused. Many years ago, I
semi-chromed the blade as this was all that was needed. This knife's
stag handle has a pleasant golden patina while it's pommel is a rich
amber color. The brass nut on the pommel has no slot as expected on this
early Ideal. A
Milton Rowland Cattail Tube Sheath is original to the knife. The tube
sheath is stable and flexible with no powdering or dry rot / flaking. A
small portion of the blade tip peeks through the bottom of the sheath
due to the knife's weight. It has a homemade, hand cut leather cord that
came with the sheath and is obviously not Marbles made. This old M.S.A.
is completely intact with nothing missing, added or tampered with. All
in all, this is just an honest, old and fine M.S.A from around 1903 with
it's original sheath. It is a great example of old classic American
cutlery craftsmanship at its best. Please message should you have any
questions or need additional photos. Payment expected within 3 days of
sale end.
