Early Wedgwood Blue White Jasperware Bottle Vase 4 Wing Figures ~ Psyche ~ Af Nr:
Wedgwood Medium Blue Jasperware Bulbous Shape Vase Early 19th C
~ Four Winged Goddesses ~ Psyche and others from Mythology ~ Ram Head Handles (Restored)
Just over 8" high ~ about 5 1/2" across the widest part
This is an interesting and lovely early Wedgwood vase I found at an estate sale with four very fine white jasper figures of winged goddesses. See the close up for the fine detail of the relief figures. It is sold as found, as the two handles are restored and the ram's heads are painted over, I'm not sure how much work was done on them. There is no restoration to the bottle or any of the figures that I can tell.
I believe these figures may have something to do with the goddess Psyche and her sisters; I found similar sprigs on early Wedgwood medallions named Psyche.
It is marked on the base with an impressed Wedgwood and the initials N and HKV. It is certainly at latest mid 19th century and could be much earlier.
There is one dark spot near one of the sprigs, I think it is a stain and may clean away.
Obviously this is sold as found, but it's an interesting early vase that looks great on the shelf.
Below; a small dark spot to the bottom left of the two figures is a stain in the jasper
Below; smaller sprigs around the inside lip; I believe the goddess with the tree could be Daphnae and the woman with an anchor, Hope.
Below ; both handles are either built up or completely rebuilt with some over paint to the rams faces.
