This is the complete collection which is bound in leather as mentioned above. The front and back covers are gilt-stamped in 22kt gold with the veritas emblem of Harvard University. All edges cased in gilt as well as spine lettering with Eliot Edition noted. The front of each book is illustrated and is with protective tissue. There are holographic endpapers of genuine silk, with gilt tooling on turn-ins. Red silk bookmarks can be found within each volume. Each volume measures 6" x 9" and are printed on archival quality paper which was especially milled for this particular edition.
In 1910, Dr. Charles W. Eliot, then President of Harvard University, assembled a library which he described as "all the books needed for a real education." This is the complete and full matching set bound as described above. It features 1,850 works by over 300 poets, philosophers, scientists, explorers, and many others.
Each volume has been opened and is no longer sealed. The volumes had been opened and placed on the shelf for display since date of purchase. Only 6 of the 50 volumes have the bookplates included; these 6 are not attached and are not written on. They were purchased at an estate sale and they were not included with the books.
