Edwardian Sterling Silver Bird Pin Cushion C1906/7, Antique/vintage/old:
Edwardian Sterling Silver Bird Pin Cushion
This is asweet Antique Sterling Silver pin cushion in the shape of a litte bird. These were very popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
It has a full English Hallmark for 1906/7, stamped by the London Assay Office, to include the lion passant for Sterling Silver, theAnchor for the Birmingham Assay Office and finally, the curlyg for 1906/7. There is also a partial makers mark that is not very cleart - it looks like L&C, but I am not sure. I have added a thumb-nail close-up photo of the hallmark below.
It belonged to my great aunt and I inherited it in the eighties, but I don't sew and I don't collect pin cushions so it has just sat in the drawer for years, which is a shame.
It has the original cushion but it has gone hard with age -probably due to years sent in an cold, old house with no central heating! It can be changed for new velvet cushion but I thought it best to leave that to the new owner, as I know a lot of collectors would prefer to have it in its original condition. Likewise, I have not polished it so it has thenatural oxidization built up on it, but it will polish up with a silver cloth if desired. However, if you want me to polish it for you before posting it, please let me know.
I will pack it in a box for posting so that it arrives safely.
