English 18th Century Georgian Solid Silver Candle Snuffer Sterling Sheffield :
Presented, without reserve,is an 18th Century Georgian Solid Sterling Silver Candle Snuffer for a chamber stick.The snuffer was made in Sheffield and is date marked for 1779. Thesnuffer is conical with a bulbous nipple finial. Itstands approximately 3.25" tall and is 1.25" in diameter at the mouth. (8.25 cm &3.2 cm, respectively). It is made of heavy gauge metal and weights .8 troy ounces or 24.9 grams. The hall marks are on the side of thesnuffer andshow polishing wear.The city and date arelegible to the naked eye.The lion passant is partially visible. The makers mark is not legible even under magnification. Excellent condition for a 240 year old piece.The finial has a slight lean.There are several short,faint, and shallow line dents, almost pinpricks.
