English Antique Owl Slipware decorated pitcher in a brown and green glazed earthenware pottery with a two opposing fish back stamp - c1790.This sale is for a wonderful early English slipware bird jug or beer pitcher. It's form is of a very stylised Owl, with birdfeatures scored in to it's glazed surface. It is glazed in a deep rich brown with some olive greens andbeiges in places. Itis clearly back stamped with two opposing fish, scored into a brown base glazed lozenge. It is a very tactile piece and it's bird like form is a very practical shape. This is a very rare example of early slipware and would date from c.1790. Sizes -approximate : 6"- handle to spout 6.5" - tall 3.5" wideCondition - This pieceis inexcellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs of any kind.
