English Delft Blue Ground Plate ~ Chinoiserie Flowers ~ Liverpool Bristol C1760:
English Delft Tin Glazed Plate ~ Pale Blue Ground with Blue, Yellow and Manganese circa 1760
~ Chinoiserie Flower & Insect Decoration ~
8 3/4" in diameter
An early English delft plate (it has an old collector's label which reads Liverpool c1760) which is either Liverpool, Bristol or London, I'm not expert enough to tell, but it does have the pale blue ground on front and back I've associated with Bristol delft. The center is painted with grey-blue bamboo stalks and a large flower in manganese, with scattered yellow leaves and flowers and a yellow and blue insect.
Use the pictures as part of the description; the outer rim is almost all rough and glaze worn along with the series of chips at 6 o'clock with some age wear along the cavetto, the back shows unglazed spots, other spots of glaze wear and rough footrim. Despite all that, it is beautiful!
