EXTREMLEY RARE GEORGE III STERLING SILVER BALUSTER COFFEE POT; MAKEPEACE & CARTER, 1777 THE FIRM LISTED ONLY ONE YEAR; EXCELLENT CONDITION; 27 OUNCES
We are pleased to offer this exceptionally rare early George III coffee pot. Bearng the mark of Robert Makepeace I & Richard Carter. The partnership lasted only a single year. As such, examples from this shop are almost never found. We located a single 1777 candlesticks in the famed Clark Art Collection.
Classic slender baluster form.
Elegant beaded rim and steppped beaded edge base.
Well fit bell dome cover. Topped with raised acorn finial, a rare finial design in Georgian silver.
Unusually long slender panelled spout. Rising from from bead drop mount.
Beautifully hand carved rolled leaf cap double scroll fruitwood (?) handle. Rising from vine framed shell terminal.
Never monogrammed.
This important English sterling silver 1777 baluster coffee pot is 11 3/4 inches tall.
Exceptionally thick heavy guage sterling construction weighs 27 1/2 (standard) ounces.
Hallmarked as shown, full marks to base. Maker and lion passant to interior edge cover.
In excellent condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. The interior perfectly clean as if little used. The cover closes flush. Handle secure and with rich mellow surface. Few barely noted shallow pinhead bumps.
For the discerning collector of the finest George III silver. Focused upon the most rare London makers if the day. An exceptionally rare 1777 Makepeace and Carter sterling baluster coffee pot. Excellent condition.
