English Sterling Silver Millitary Ewer Pitcher 1866 Bengal Corps 27 Oz For Sale
MUSEUM WORTHY ENGLISH VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER PRESENTATION EWER; AWARDED TO SURGEON IN 1868 IN THE BENGAL STAFF CORPS; RETAILED BY COOKE & KELVEY, CALCUTTA; EXCELLENT CONDITION
We are pleased to offer this important Victorian sterling silver millitary presentation ewer.
In the ever sought after Abercrombie pattern.
It bears a period engraved presentation from a major in the Bengal Staff Corps, to R. Widdersdale surgeon, MD member of the 32nd Punjab Regiment N.I. Pioneers, at Boxa Bhoutan.
Briefly, the Bengal Corps formed in 1861 as one of several branches of the Indian army. The Pinjab regiments, Packistann's oldest, most decorated infantry regiment. And Boxa Bhoutan, a fort captured by the British-Indian army in 1865, after the Douarrs War with Bhoutan.
The ewer crafted by Martin & Hall, Sheffield in 1866. And retailed by the Indian firm Cooke & Kelvey.
Slender baluster form.
All over brilliant raised bead medalliom set in vine scroll frame. The medallion gradually larger as approaching the base. Set against satin surface. A striking variation on the Abercrombie pattern.
The inset shaped cover with delicately engraved bead and frame gourd finial.
Elaborately cast beaded and thin panel accented doube scroll handle. Satin surafce spread leaf and streaming bead terminal.
This important 1866 ewer is 12 1/2 inches tall.
Exceptionally thick, heavy guage sterling 27 (standard) ounces.
Hallmarked as shown.
In excellent condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina. The beautifully raised medallion and elaborate handle retain their original crisp, vibrant hand chased detail. Stands perfectly firm on table or display shelf. Original interior gilt shows under cover and inside neck. Single tiny shallow bump, barely noted.
For the discerning collector of the finest Victorian silver. Focused upon the most rare of designs. A museum worthy Victorian sterling silver Abercrombie style millitary presentation ewer. Excellent condition.

We happily combine items when shipping, saving you costs. We ship twice weekly, usually US Postal Priority. Fully insured for domestic packages, and air parcel overseas. We charge a bit more than actual cost for custom size boxes, shipping materials and to pay for professional packing.
We make great effort to accurately describe each item listed. Returns are accepted, if either condition, country of origin or dating is significantly incorrect. In such cases we refund your shipping costs as well. Like you, we are only human, and make mistakes. Hopefully, not too many.
Remember, the items you see are antiques. Hence, have an expected amount of wear from normal use. As such, returning an item because we failed to mention the tiniest bit of wear, or barely discernible flaw is not acceptable. Nor do we accept returns based on buyer's remorse. Nor change of taste, or because a buyer did not realize how "small" four inches might be once in hand.
