GEORGIAN STERLING SILVER REPOUSSE GRAVY BOAT
MADE BY FRANCIS CRUMP 1770
Pleased to offer this wonderful example of Georgian silver in the form of a large heavy gravy boat. Of classic 18th century oval form, with a wide mouth spout and flared scallop edge rim. Standard double scroll leaf capped handle. Stands on three shell capped and curved knuckle stepped hoof feet.After decoration repousse by hand in the 19th century is done extremely well, and shows deep, crisp and clear in every facet incorporating all original elements of the boat (note the work integral to each of the shell capped feet)
Rare to see a gravy sauce boat of this age in such excellent condition. Obviously, used for display the vast majority of its 247 years of age. There is a small cartouche front center displaying horse rampant part of a heraldic coat of arms.
Made of a heavier gauge of silverweighing245 grams (8.5oz) the boat stands 5 inches tall to handle 6 3/4 inches long from spout to handle, and 3 3/4 inches wide. The gravy boat stands firm and level. No signs of pushed legs, solder marks or any repairs, no cracks, splits of dents, dings, or dints.One of the cleanest examples of a Georgian silver gravy boat I have ever seen.
Clearly punched with crisp hallmarks of the lion passant for assayed English silver, Leopards head with crown for London (pre 1824) Date letter of a old English \"P\" for 1770 and makers mark of a F dot C in a rectangle for Francis Crump.1770
