Teniers decorated silver is some of the most coveted of all designs. Based upon the paintings of Dutch tavern scenes by David Teniers the Younger (1610-1690).
This is one of several pieces of Teniers we will be offering. From a four generation collection.
In classic baluster form.
Adorned with a brilliantly carved continuous Dutch Teniers scenes.
Normally set inside a tavern. These scenes all outdoors in the tradition of a Flemish feast or "kermesse'.
Peasants drinking and dancing in a circle, couple on bench. Flute player atop barrel.
Opposite side with couples on benches, one holding pitcher of ale. Elder standing and flute player on bench.
The other pieces with with fiddlers playing while a couple dances the jug. Couples in passionate kiss and fellow tavern goers look on and cheer.
Each scene different from the others.
Covers topped with boldly cast Dutch merry-maker, seated atop barrel of ale. Pitcher in one hand and mug the other.
Striking bird head spout, Rising from chased Bacchus face and shell mount.
Finished with Dutch peasant and shell tip feet.
The smaller pieces have branch handles capped with drunken Dutchman, with mug and pitcher held high.
This rare 1869 Teniers sterling silver silver teapot is 7 1/2 inches and it weighs 16 standard ounces.
The sugar is 4 1/2 inches and it weighs 7 standard ounces.
The cream jug is 4 inches and 5 1/2 standard ounces.
Hallmarked as shown. All pieces fully hallmarked and marks match.
In excellent condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. The lavishly hand carved Teniers scene, mask spout and floral work retain their original detail. Smaller pieces with interior gold wash.
