We are pleased to offer this Victorian sterling silver Tenniers tea and coffee service.
The most coveted designs in 19th century English silver.
Signed for Charles Frederick Hancock in 1872.
The set impossible to distinguish from Edward Farrell. Known for this design.
The squat pear forms adorned with series of Dutch tavern or Teniers scenes.
Each different.
Based upon the paintings of David Tenniers the Younger (1610-1690).
Patrons outside tavern drinking, playing cards, dancing and making merry. A group playing instruments, others smoking pipe. Bar maid filling patron\'s glasses.
The covers with drunken man on barrel holding jug and goblet overhead.
Leaf and vine wrap branch form handles. Rising from thick gnarled spread root terminal.
The set supported atop brilliantly cast winged leaf drunken man seated on shell feet.
In forty years of collecting Tenniers silver, this foot one I have never seen.
Never monogrammed
Hallmarked as shown.
Tenniers coffee pot is 10 1/2 inches tall and 37 standard ounces.
The teapot 11 inches handle to spout 34 standard ounces.
Sugar vase is 8 inches 18 1/2 standard ounces. Cream jug is 6 inches 12 standard ounces.
The entire four piece set weighs 101 standard ounces.
Excellent condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina. Interior of the pots clean as if little used. Stand perfectly firm on table or display shelf. Covers close flush. The Tenniers scenes retain all of their original detail. The sugar and cream jug with original gold interior.
