Mahogany Pillar and Scroll Clock made by Erastus Hodges, Torrington, Connecticut, c. 1830. Clock is in working order, but needs to be oiled. Strikes on the hour. Features scroll top, freestanding columns flanking the door with glazed top over the painted wooden dial with raised gilt decoration. Case is in fair condition with many cracks in the veneer. Finish is in good condition. However, it does not appear to be original. Also features floral spandrels and Roman numerals, printed maker's label on backboard and scroll apron. Landscape painting on lower tablet. Tablet is cracked in upper right corner. Painting shows some wear and appears to have been retouched. Door does not have a latch or key. 30-hour 'Torrington' East-West wood movement with count wheel strike, recoil escapement, two cast iron weights, pendulum and winding key. Dimensions are approximately 29" x15-1/2" x 4-1/4".
Clock was purchased at an estate sale in 1969.
