Estate Rare Vintage 1940's? Dunhill Silent Flame Superman Table-top Lighter With:
I purchased this recently at an estate sale. I don't know a lot about it except the information the saleeer gave about it. According to him, and the information he had received or gathered before saleing, there were only 2 known to surface within the last several years. Also, he said, if I am not mistaken, this is from the 1940's ? Could it be earlier ? I really do not know. I've also purchased items and found out later some things were different from what I was told. So, please be your own judge. There are 12 pictures, as many as I could upload, hoping you can tell more about it and the condition. According to the saleeer, he said he didn't think it had ever been used. I pulled the lighter out hoping you can see and tell more about it. Because, again, I really do not know. He also said the particular estate this had come from, had in it, what he thought to be the original batteries. I showed them in one of the photo's. They say leak proof and are Ray-o-vac. It does show some wear but looks to be complete and for the age I would think good condition. I tried to get closer up pictures of Superman as well so hopefully you can see the surface wear, places, etc. The battery compartment looks clean and doesn't look to have any battery acid build-up. I did notice after purchasing it sounded like there was something loose inside. So, when taking the bottom off there was a loose piece/rivet. It looks like a rivet on 2 places on the back side...maybe it had a plaque or some type of personalization on it or something ? I'm not sure if they were manufactured this way? But, it looks like it could be placed back if someone wanted. I also took a picture of this and will enclose that piece that was loose. Also, I will include the batteries, what the saleeer thought might be the original batteries. If you do not want them, I will not ship them. In my opinion, I think it might be a late 1930's or early 1940's Superman Dunhill Silent Flame Table Lighter. The base measures approximately 3" square and it's approximately 4 1/2" in height. I think the base is a bakelite material. I do not want to try it since it doesn't look like it's been used or if it has...not much... I think you will see the detail on the bottom and the information printed on the bottom as well. Thanks for your interest and looking :)
