This is an example of an Ethiopean Shotel Sword which dates from the late 19th to early 20th Century. It is mounted with a sickle shaped blade that measures 28 5/8 inches in length by 2 5/8 inches at the widest. The multi-grooved blade remains in good condition with only minor surface staining. The wooden hilt shows to have been hemp wrapped in recent years and wears a very interesting engraved bronze pommel that has now developed verdigris with age. The rawhide scabbard is a bit weathered nonetheless is present. Overall measuring 33 inches in length. There is . (please note other items shown as props are not included in this sale)
