Exc 1/8 Pl Tintype Circa 1870 Showing Full Standing "dandy" Guns In Sash,boots&c For Sale
Offering this 1/8plate tintype, taken around early 1870s, portraying a young Dandy or perhaps an actor, decked out in quasi military garb and posing for the camera. This guy has tall boots and two unusual guns, a Savage revolver or a Pettengill Army revolver, and another octagon barreled revolver, but not a Colt I don't think? It appears he has an red officers sash tied around his middle and it appears he is wearing a regulation eagle belt plate and belt. Brimmed hat with a kind of tassle or hat cords wrapped around it. Close inspection shows the large mustache and thick eyebrows were applied to image. My bet is on an actor all dressed up for his part and having his picture taken. Excellant tonal quality but there are a few solid , tiny bubbles to emulsion to the lower left in background as you view the image. Nice photo in self contained paper case by photographer, A S Davis & Co, Portland Maine.(have other images from photographers from Maine that came w/this photo) .
