This excellent antique French violin
is offered to the highest buyer with .
The violin is guaranteed to be authentic and genuine as labeled.
The violin was made around 1925 in Mirecourt, France, in the workshop of Laberte-Magne. This is an excellent example , very well preserved and in very good condition. There are three minor repaired cracks-two tiny, well-repaired wing cracks and a small repaired crack under the tailpiece that is not visible. The violin has been heavily used over the past century. There are nicks and scratches as would be expected but the violin has a fresh and clean appearance. The varnish is excellent and original, and the workmanship very clean and typically French. This is one of the better grades of Mirecourt violins made during this period. The catalog page pictured below from Laberte et Magnié "A la ville de Crémone" 1927, lists the Didelot violins as well as some of the other trade names used by Laberte such as Breton,Borelli, Marquis de Lair, Betholini, Couturieux, Fournier, etc. This violin is exceptionally well set-up with fine rosewood fittings and an excellent old bridge perfectly fitted to the violin. The violin plays very smoothly and easily on Thomastik Dominant strings. The violin tunes easily, the pegs turn smoothly and hold well, and the set-up shows the hand of a highly capable and meticulous luthier. This violin has a huge, powerful voice. This is a very capable tool for an accomplished and demanding player. It has the body and focus as well as the solid core of a soloist violin and the punch and projection necessary to deliver the message; even in the largest halls. It is a well-balanced sound, warm yet with the brilliant edge a performer needs. It is even and smooth across the strings and clear and clean all the way up the fingerboard. There is not a wolf tone to be heard, even way up on the G string. I was so impressed by the sound of this violin, I had a Boston professional violinist and concert soloist play it and evaluate it to confirm my own impressions. He felt that it had the tonal quality and power equal to satisfy the most demanding of players. In his words, "Anyone who can really play will like this violin." This violin is for the professional performer who needs a really capable performance instrument. It has my very highest recommendation as a superior sounding, professional grade instrument.
