Exceptional All Silk 1880's Crazy Quilt Portiere With Painted Border For SaleExceptional 1880's all silk crazy quilt portiere with a remarkable painted silk velvet border and a wonderfully diverse selection of textiles, embroideries and painted pieces. The fifteen 12 x 12-inch squares at the center of this unique quilt are each made from more than twenty individual pieces of silk, all carefully chosen and embellished with decorative feather stitching in a wide array of colorful flosses. The variety of superb silk damasks, brocades and printed silks create an exceedingly vibrant and textural surface and there are a number of pieces painted with romantically rendered flowers. The silk velvet border is a rich, deep red - the perfect ground for the green and white floral cascade on the bottom panel. The center is outlined in pale blue braided silk cord, the outer edge of the quilt is trimmed in deep red braided silk cord and there is a polished cotton backing. In unusually fine uncleaned antique condition with only some minor thread separations on the braided cord, the center section measures approximately 64 x 38-inches and 52 x 94-inches overall.PLEASE NOTE: Electronic payments are expected within two days, other forms of payment within 5 days.
