A COMPLETE WORK OFART- SUCH FANTASTIC WORKMANSHIP WHICH MUST HAVE TAKEN AGES TO align=\"center\" class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\">

A superbly carved and piercedchinese fan that dates from the late 18th/ early 19th century.

IT WAS MADE PURELY FOREXPORT TO THE WEST THROUGH THE OLD CHINATRADE AT CANTON.

The fanis decorated with the intricate and delicate piercing and carving typical ofthe workmanship of this period which obviously took exceptional skill, patienceand time.

Theguards are superbly carved in deep relief with dragons and figures. On thereverse of each guard there are the eight immortals.

The sticksare very finely and profusely carved to both sides with numerous orientalfigures going about their daily lives. There are pagodas, boats, bridges,people on horseback, people taking tea, smoking pipes etc etc.

AT THE BASE THE RIVET HAS MOTHER OF PEARLWASHERS.

It has amellow warm patina through age.

The fanmeasures approximately 7.5 inches long and is in exceptional condition - asgood as it gets.

IT IS A FINE EXAMPLE OF THIS TYPE OF UNBELIEVABLE EARLY CRAFTSMANSHIP.
