Exceptional Iridescent Art Glass Vase (approx. 9 11/16”) By Craig Zweifel :
After nearly 20 years it is time to part with our modest collection of Zweifel art glass, prior to packing up and moving. (Please be sure to see our “other items” for sale.)
The Piece: Signed & Dated 1995
This 1995 fan-like example of the artist’s “DAST” pattern is in superb condition with no scratches, chips or breaks. This vase, at almost 9 3/4 inches tall (with an opening approximately 5” x 3 1/2”) demonstrates the signature Zweifel traits of impeccable form coupled with a dazzling luminescence of color and movement. Zweifel’s work generally employs rich and shimmering hues of greens, ambers, pinks, golds and purples, a number of which are evident in this fine piece. The piece has been rotated during photography to provide different side views.
For those not familiar with Zweifel and his work, - - he has been working in glass since 1969 having had studios in Wyoming, California, Idaho, and Oregon. Using a signature process that employs fusing silver to the molten glass during firing, Zweifel hand blows each piece, without molds or machines, making each piece unique with subtle variations in pattern and color. Each piece bears the artist’s signature and its year of creation.
Zweifel’s works have been exhibited at major galleries and museums throughout the world and reportedly can be found in many private and public collections including those of the White House and Smithsonian.
In 2012 Craig Zweifel ceased production of these lovely art objects and announced the the closing of his glass studio, retiring as one of the country’s pre-eminent glass artists.
