Exceptionally Long 18th C. English Scottish Cavalry Basket Hilt Back Sword 47" For Sale
A truly impressive and rare example of the Scottish horseman's broadsword dating from the mid to late 1700s, wearing a massive nearly 40" in length single edged back sword blade suitable for most efficient cavalry battle action as probably too long for a foot soldier. Blade exhibiting beautiful rich patina evenly distributed throughout the surface, perfect edge with few tiny nicks towards the tip area indicating on timely combats. Mounted with a large steel basket hilt showing extensive patina and fine pitting throughout, later leather wrapped grip lacking wire. The sword is solid and completely intact, its one of the longest and most battle efficient fighting examples i have ever encountered. overall 47" blade 39 1/2".
