Absolutely gorgeous antique Napoleon III or Victorian era 16\" wide campaign style writing box, folding lap desk or slope in rich rosewood veneers with exquisite figural mother of pearl & brass inlay, including a peacock or exotic bird, in superb condition with original writing surface and working lock & key! I am an avid collector of both inkwells and fabulous old boxes and this piece really incorporates both of those loves. Unfortunately, I tend to offer all for sale so my collection is always changing and I often have to part with pieces I truly love. The nature of the business I guess. This one is quite gorgeous. It\'s been a while since I found a lap desk in this style that I thought deserved to be in our collection but this one definitely does. Rich rosewood veneers and the inlay is simply magnificent! Fabulous condition, too, I\'m sure you\'ll be thrilled with it!
Very good to excellent condition. No maker\'s marks but of the highest quality. Original gilt embossed maroon leather writing surface, working lock & key. No missing or damaged veneer or inlays. It is missing the original inkwells but oh well. There is a tiny strip of veneer that’s chipped off of the top portion right at the brass lock plate inset. There is a slight gap at the left side when locked, I don’t see any reason for it other than perhaps the locking pins aren’t holding it down completely flush to the lower half of the box. Hard to find these in pristine condition but this is definitely one of the best we’ve had in this style. Stunning! See pictures for all measurements.

Our shipping days are Tuesday and Friday, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is received (except when special circumstances exist). We prefer to use USPS whenever possible, and require all packages to be insured. If you prefer another method of shipment, please mention it. We charge only actual expense of shipment/insurance, except in the case of larger items which must have special wood crates built. Wood crate charge, when applicable, is a flat $35.00 in addition to actual postage & insurance charges.
