A DREAM of a DRESS! One of the most romantic ever dresses, fit for the Fairy Queen herself! Exquisite antique wedding dress from the mid 1920's. Floating layers of gorgeous French silk lace with tiny silk satin bows, lightweight champagne hued silk charmeuse and silk satin. The silk lace is lighter than air, and is embellished with beautiful hand made French silk pink ribbon roses on the shoulder, center waist and front panels. There are also tiny ivory silk bows at the top of each flounce gather on the skirt, so charming! The dress has been attributed to the Haute Couture design house Lucile Ltd, who was Lady Duff Gordon, the famous survivor of The Titanic. The gown is the coveted Robe de Style silhouette, with a dropped waist and full skirt, and is an iconic 1920s Flapper era dress.

Full skirt is floaty and fuller than it looks in my photos, as the lace needs to be steamed and puffed out with your fingers to bring it back to its original fullness. The lace us arranged in a lovely pattern of scallops and drapes, all around the entire skirt. The color of the dress is sort of a candle glow or champagne, or pale vanilla. Dropped waistline has a French rolled seam. There are two layers under the silk lace skirt. The first is a layer of horizontal panels of silk lace, chiffon, and silk charmeuse ( a light velvety feeling satin), and this layer is slightly longer than the lace over-skirt, and has a hem of scalloped chiffon with picot edging, The 2nd under-layer is a silk taffeta under-dress or slip. The dress is sleeveless, with tiny hidden snaps for closures up the side from the waistline to underarm. Bodice has the requisite straight line from shoulder to waistline. There is a sheer maline or silk tulle wrap "scarf" that floats over the front and or the neckline, or perhaps from one shoulder to the waist (works either way). The pink silk ribbon roses are exquisite, and could be easily removed if you wished to wear this without the pink. The silk lace has a wonderful luster and is thin and fairy light, yet has a great "body" and feel. The lace is set on a sheer silk maline (fine tulle) background.

I was told when I purchased this many years ago that it was worn as a wedding dress. Of course, it easily serves as a formal dress for any warm weather occasion or evening wear. The dress is clean... no stains, and most of it is very good. Could be worn, but with care as is delicate as it is antique and silk lace...A wonderful dress for a collection, display, or to study as well. More details after a few photos. I took a lot of photos of this dress for you. See below the photos for full details on condition and more. Thank you! .

The other hems of the other layers are finished with delicate hand picot edging and hand stitching, amazing workmanship there and in the entire dress, which has much hand finishing. I just cannot get over the stunning silk lace, it is the most beautiful I have seen on a dress of this time period. Lucile gave charming names to her lace tea gowns and lace dresses, such as "Daydreams" or "Enchantment", and this gown has all of the touches found in her work. There is no label remaining, although the museum I purchased this from in the 1980's attributed the dress to Lucile Ltd, (this was long before she was rediscovered) . Even if it is not of her Paris, London,or New York salon, it is gorgeous.

The length from shoulder top to deep scallop in hem is 43" long in front. Bust measured from underarms across is 34", and the seam at the dropped waist is approx 32"...(the waist seam is 18" down from the shoulder top). All measurements were taken on the outer layer of the dress, laying flat. Please ask if you need more specific information, thank you. This seems a smaller size.

CONDITION is VERY GOOD on most of it, but it does have a few small flaws. The dress was well stored in an antique steamer trunk in a private home estate, never put in an attic or basement, and is clean and fresh looking, with no soiling, no fading or color streaks. The color is even, although it may have aged slightly from the original color. It was not white, it was always an ivory shade. It is a creamy ivory color, like a French vanilla and very pretty color, not yellow. The dress has no odors, no stains. Underarms have no damage, no stains or weak areas. Bodice is very good, no rips or tears, no stains, snaps close nicely. The silk is not dry or shattering, it is supple. The French silk lace is overall excellent, crisp and fine, delicate as it it's nature, but is not brittle or dryed out, handles well, no stains or splits. The silk lace is really very good, most of it is excellent. There may be a tiny hole in the lace I missed, but I found no large holes or rips except for 1 by one of the 2 pink roses on the skirt (but it hides in the folds of the lace, really it does). Edges on the lace are excellent. Pink silk ribbon roses are excellent, soft and supple (1 is a bit loose). Seams on the dress are secure and very good.Skirt is very good. Hems are very good, the top lace has some uneven areas to the hem (the plain tulle part), as this was not hemmed originally but was left "cut" or "raw" when made as that was the style...so now it needs to be evened off, easy to do and it does not effect the lines of the dress as the chiffon second layer is lovely underneath. The other hems of the other layers are finished with delicate hand picot edging and hand stitching, amazing workmanship there. overall excellent, not torn or ripped, I found 1 tiny hole near the hem is all. Seams on the dress are secure and very good. I found no tears or rips or holes on the last layer of silk, (the half slip) looks very good. On the top layer with the lace and flounces, there are some scattered holes in the mailine (tulle)...not all over, but there are some ranging in size from most of them being tiny pin hole sized to a few that are larger but still small sized. These are not noticed as they do hide in the folds of lace, hard to see if you don't know they are there, but they are there. PLEASE SEE THE PHOTOS. The photos are part of the description. The dress may have a tiny hole, loose thread, or split that I missed, but I looked it over well. ..... Comes from a smoke free, pet free home and has been well stored. Offered with a low opening offer and . I do not guarantee this will fit you.... I am selling this as described, for it rarity, and for study, collecting. etc. Not perfect, has flaws noted..... International shipping is non refundable on returns. Thank you.

On Apr-21-13 at 19:57:14 PDT, seller added the following information:

NOTE: I noticed shortly after listing this, that is there is i tiny thing I forgot to mention. The silk tulle "scarf" or narrow wrap has some tearing in it. You can simply take this off the dress if it bothers you, as it is not needed and is only lightly attached at the waist.
