Exquisite 1930s Peach Ostrich Feather & Spiral Velvet Hat,bonwit Teller, Unique For Sale

This wonderful vintage 1930s evening chapeau is like a confection, with swirls of delicious pale peach ostrich feathers literally float and whirl around the face, whispy and ethereal. The feathers have been treated to create unique little "tips" and long whispy ends that are super fine, almost like fine silk threads. Color is pale shell peach, so soft and lovely. The plumes are attached to a base of whimsical coils of (wired) black velvet that create spirals on either side. Really unusual! Dates from the mid to late 1930's circa 1936-1938. Wide black silk millinery ribbon across the bottom bears the silk label BONWIT TELLER, Philadelphia. Almost barely there, more like a headdress than a hat, this charmer is sure to be a favorite. This looks very French, and looks much like some of the lovely fascinators worn today on the Paris runways. Perfect to wear with those 1930's bias cut evening gowns or summer dresses.

The hat will, of course, need a hat elastic or bobby pins or clips to keep it on the head. My mannequin could not seem to keep it on her head, as she has a slippery dome!

This hat has never been offered for sale and has been in my personal collection for over 20 years. Bonwit Teller had some of the most talented milliners working in their custom millinery salon in Philadelphia and New York. This hat was quite expensive when new, and is a unique find.
