Exquisite Antique Edwardian Satin Point De Gaze Lace Wedding Gown From Museum:
Exquisite Antique Edwardian Satin Point de Gaze Lace Wedding Gown Museum Deaccession
This is a truly dreamy, antique Edwardian, candlelight slipper satin and handmade Point de Gaze needle lace wedding gown. Circa 1910, the Titanic era, this gown has provenance as a Brooklyn Museum deaccession, and was recently acquired at sale. Hence, it is in amazing condition for its age. It was acquired along with the original Princess lace bridal veil, which I also have currently up for offer.
Layers and layers of beautiful, luxurious slipper satin and tulle net fabric cascade down the form with lovely side draping, so characteristic of the Edwardian era. It features gorgeous details, such as the handmade Point de Gaze lace that graces the neckline and continues around the back of the bodice, as well as the little satin bows that highlight the lovely tulle sleeves. As a seamstress, I marvel at the intricate construction and attention to detail that went into its creation. There are so many tiny snaps to hold each facet of the gown perfectly in place. Truly a work of "heart." In remarkably pristine condition, there are but a few vertical quarter inch splits in the satin up near the shoulder, which are barely noticeable due to its beautiful glow, and the tulle has been successfully repaired underneath one sleeve at the armpit. Measurements are 34" bust, 24" waist, a 36" hip, and 53" in length. All sum up to a magnificent gown for a special lady's day, or as a display piece for the serious collector.
