Exquisite Antique Russian Silver Basket - St. Petersburg For Sale
This is an exquisite antique Russian silver basket. The workmanship and design is excellent. Thesilver is embossed or molded through the entirepiece. The center of the basket is fluted. The exterior and interior rim has a lovely and intricate rosebud and leaf design. The handle is attached to anintricatecutout of a pair of winged horses(Pegasus). This piece stands on a raised pedestal base that also is fluted with a decorativerim. The detail shows limited wear, only a few spots where the details are less crisp. The piece stands 4 tall (10 cm) without the handle. The handle adds another 3 and 1/2 inches (9cm). The basketis just under 8 inches (20 cm) long. It is 5 and 1/2 inches (14 cm) wide. The marks appear to me to be St. Petersburg. The maker's markappears to me to be IA. The Silver Standard mark of 84 is clear, as is the imperial double headed eagle. The piece is marked twice - onceon the underside of the base, and once on the handle. Thetwo marks arethe same. The piece weighs10.6 ounces(300 grams). This is clearly an old piece, in excellent condition, appropriate to it's age. It would make a wonderful edition to any collection.
