Amazing early 19th century Chinese carved Ox Bone card case. Deeply carved in the Cantonese style its in amazing time warp condition.
Itdates to around 1830 but may be earlier.
The case stands 11.6 cm high and its 7.4 cm across. The width is 1.1 cm.
It fits both credit cards and business cards so ispractical for modern use.The deep carving has no damage, all heads of all figure are intact as is thefoliage around the edges. There is a small period repair to the edge of the lid as clearly shown in the last picture. It is glued with 19th century glue that is easily removed and a simple repair. I could do this but in order to be as honest as possible I have decided to leave it as it is. This item was brought back to the UK by a business man who had been in Hong Kong. The inside bears script in ink pen that is easily removed however I have decided to leave it as is. Please view all enlargeable pictures carefully as they are a fair represenation of condition!
