Extremely Rare 18th Century Engraved Solid Brass Islamic Casket.

Circa 1750

This casket has a single cast body and lid with applyed bracket feet, hinges and hasp with beautiful very fine engraved decoration. There is Islamic writing on all four sides of the lid, which unfortunately I am unable to read, but I am sure given the work involved to make this, is must say something pretty important. There is just so much going on in the It really is a stunning item and I have not seen such quality on Islamic artifacts before.

Looking through an eye glass you can see just how fine the work is which by even todays standards is just not possible through casting.

The design is straight out of the 12th / 13th century although wishful thinking led to it being shown to a couple of sale houses who informed the previous owner that is was most likely made in around the middle of the 18th century.

The only small issue is that the hinges have become detached and a small repair is needed to remedy this. I personally do not want to have it repaired as I like it being dull instead of shinny, which may have to happen if the hinges are discoloured after repairs are done and then the whole thing may need to be polished to uniform the colour again.

I would love to keep it but I am in the process of slowly emigrating and just connot take everything with me, so it does need a good home where it can be appreciated.
