This is just about the most amazing box I have ever seen. I have been a collector for close to 40 years and have never come across another one quite like it. It is dated 1915. Expertly fabricated in Germany at that time, this box is a mixture of wood, applied carving in bas relief, with meticulous hand painting, combined with hand-colored decoupage German village scenes. The tree bisecting the box is outstanding as are the hand crafted logs framing the images. This box has an imposing presence. It measures 14 inches long, by 5 inches wide and close to 3 inches high. The interior condition is perfect. Most likely the box was used only for display. At 112 years old, this is a magnificent piece of folk art. We have had it on display with our collection of American and European Folk Art for several decades. Offered for the first time from our collection. An outstanding find!
