Exceptfor very early work in the late 1920s, items decorated by the Namiki atelierwere always signed by the lacquer artist in Japanese kanji, together withNamiki-kan if prewar and Kokkokai postwar. The signatures are typically placedin a corner on a lighter, and beside the filling lever on a fountain pen, ingold and red characters clearly visible. Typically, maki-e items and plainblack urushi lacquered items were always signed, as were maki-e items whereother decoration such as abalone or eggshell was included. However, if only abalone or eggshell was used in thedecoration these items were never signed.
