Extremely Rare \"Otropic\" field microscope by Hermann Wetzer KG, 1947:
$609.00

Pleaseread carefully the following report. The figures are an integral part of thisdescription.

I sell now a small fraction of my collection of historical field microscopes in order to allow new acquisitions. Please follow my other listings.

Offered here for sale is an extremely rare, high quality case-mounted portable microscope byHermann Wetzer KG, Germany.

Hermann Wetzer produced very limited numbers of the Otropic microscope from late 1947 till 1952 or 1953, most of which were sent to customers in Hong Kong and Rio de Janeiro. It appears that this was the only microscope to be produced by the company as they normally made other instruments. The case-mounted version of the microscope is apparently extremely rare and was made in very small numbers.
On the other hand, this is an extremely well designed high quality instrument. The workmanship is really outstanding and the optical performance is superb. The microscope is equipped with two Rau-Optik objectives (30:1 N.A. 0.65, and 78:1 N.A. 0.90), two oculars (10X and 15X), an adjustable substage Abbe condenser with iris diaphragm and mirror or battery illumination. Coarse focusing is by a long helicoid on the tube, fine focusing is by a micrometer helicoid just above it.

Previously acting as Hermann WetzerMeßtechnik KG, now Endress+Hauser Wetzer GmbH, this company is located inNesselwang im Allgäu, Bavaria, Germany. The company specializes nowadays in thedevelopment and manufacture of thermometers, temperature transmitters andsensors, system technical components and energy solutions. It was founded in 1872 by Hermann Wetzer Pfronten-Steinach and since 1976 has beenpart of the Swiss Endress & Hauser Group.

Condition:The microscope is in very good condition. The electric illumination has not been tested because of the lack of fitting battery (I could not figure out which type was used). Using the mirror for illumination, optically, the microscope functions very well and provides very sharp images.
