EXTREMELY RARE Wooden/Gesso Doll ca 1840:

This is a stunning early 14\" tall high quality doll made in Sonneberg Germany around 1840. The wooden shoulder head is finished with paint over gesso. The body is made of cloth, but the feet is also made of wood. Due to her rather big feet she can stand on her own. She has a finely carved head and facial features with a personal expression. The hairdo is fancy with an artfully braided bun and gray brush-strokes around the edges of her face.
On one side of the head there is a 2\" long dry crack. It is rather fine and not very disturbing (see pic.).
The tulle and lace dress is sewn on to the doll. It is yellowed by age and there are some holes (see close-up photos), but it is still very nice with small pink silk ribbons, bows and rosettes. One rosette is glued to the black hair (all original). She has two petticoats (one with lace) and long lace trimmed pantaloons.
The doll is 100% original. Despite the issues just mentioned, the doll is surprisingly well kept considering her age.
