Fabulous 19c Chinese Deeply Carved Sandalwood Card Case 3/4" Thick In 5 Levels For SaleI am always very proud to offer high quality Chinese export items from the 18th and 19th centuries and this week I have several wonderful objects from the "Old China Trade" from the early to mid c1800s. Here being offered is a fabulous large and thick c1840-50 Chinese deeply carved sandalwood calling card case of an extremely thick size allowing the very talented master carver to work in great depth of relief showing at least 5 separate distinct levels of carving depicting numerous large figures engaged in conversation, work and leisurely activities carrying buckets of water, reading, holding fans with several figures inside a boat meandering through a willow covered waterway. The figures are found amoungst outdoor and terraced settings with prunus, willow and dogwood trees as well as plants, flowers and rockery along with a wonderful stone bridge, large porcelain garden seats and mountainous backgrounds. There are also a number of pagodas and buildings as well as various with the same in full scenes on both sides edges due to the allowing width and the top and bottom are executed in birds, leaves and flowers. The color hasacquireda wonderfulchestnutshade of brown with original patina having a great tactile feel in the hand. Condition is excellent with no breaks, cracks, repairs or restorations only having 3 tiny leaf tips missing along the top edges and 1 off the bottom edge otherwise perfect. Sizes: Height 4-1/4" x Width 2-11/16" x Thickness 3/4"+.
