In exquisite, near pristine condition, a simply magnificent circa 4th century BC original Greek, solid gold diadem ornament

One of the most beautiful and precious items I have seen

This beautiful ornament from a diadem is master crafted from two thick interlinked solid gold ropes with four large granules to one face

Weighing a substantial 4.55 grams and measuring 30 mm, 1.5 inches across

This exquisite ornament comes from the former collection of a Harley Street, London, UK professional

A diadem is a type of crown, specifically an ornamental headband worn by Eastern monarchs and others as a badge of royalty. The word derives from the Greek diádēma, "band" which derives from diadéō, "I bind round"

The term originally referred to the embroidered white silk ribbon, ending in a knot and two fringed strips often draped over the shoulders, that surrounded the head of the king to denote his authority. Such ribbons were also used to crown victorious athletes in important sports games in antiquity. It was later applied to a metal crown, generally in a circular or "fillet" shape. For example, the crown worn by the kings of Anglo-Saxon England was a diadem

The ancient Celts were believed to have used a thin, semioval gold plate called a mind (Old Irish) as a diadem. Some of the earliest examples of these types of crowns can be found in ancient Egypt, from the simple fabric type to the more elaborate metallic type

A diadem was also a jewelled ornament worn in the hair or on a band around the forehead over the forehead, in this sense, also called a tiara

A unique opportunity to acquire a precious and exquisite, original circa 4th century BC, Greek diadem ornament
