Fabulous1932 Ives 1764e Created By Jim Cohen For Sale
As Ives was basically taking their last breathe in 1932, now totally under the control of the Lionel Corporation, they managed to create one, last masterpiece: the 1764E! Very few of these locomotives were ever made, and interestingly Lionel never deemed it worthy of integrating it into their own standard gauge lineup.
An example in this condition would easily bring in excess of $10,000, and very few are known to exist in C-8 condition. This example was created by master craftsman, the late Jim Cohen, and in fact was his PERSONAL 1764E from his own collection. Unlike the units created by MTH, this one is UNDETECTABLE from an original locomotive right down to tabs he used to hold on the cowcatchers (MTH screwed them on; Ives-Lionel used the tabs)! The only way you can tell this is a Cohen unit is to press down on the roof; it pops back up as he used a lighter gauge metal then did the factory due to the limitations of his equipment. The color is an ABSOLUTE MATCH to the original.
This locomotive features a Lionel Bild-A-Loco motor, exactly as did the original, and is in perfect operating condition. It has been re-wheeled with McCoy wheels. Paint is in C-8 condition, and there is some light rust on the couplers and brake wheels which could be cleaned up. As a historical footnote, I have included two photos of Jim at work in his shop.
Now that Jim is gone, these masterpieces will increase in value and this is a rare opportunity to acquire one in superb condition! Feb. 14, 2013 I decided to try and clean up the brake wheel supports and couplers, and with a little effort came up with this result. You can see how much improved they are!

Feb. 15, 2013 I thought I would include a photo of Jim Cohen’s “SIGNATURE” or stamp that appears under one of the trucks. It says: PRODUCTION BY JAMES COHEN, 62 Stemway Road, Trumbull, Conn. 05512
