We also Feature Many Other Fascinating Collectibles from Throughout the World! We Treat You Like Royalty!!!This is an attractive, authentic historic antique American circa 1860\'s Sword with a fabulous Knights Head Pommel featuring an unusual Baroque design. It is particularly ornate. A relatively uncommon pattern of helmet. There is also a circular ornate band (rimm) with rococo patterns at the base of the grip. We were told this sword was from circa 1860\'s. We have no reason to doubt this. Based on the militaristic designs that are etched on the blade, it probably hails from some military source, although we do not know the exact unit or group. This is not a fraternal sword, but its exact origins are a mystery. Contrary to what some sources may say, these exact patterns were not used for making Masonic, Knights Templar or other secret society swords. And due to confusing and complex histories, there is still much persitent misattribution when it comes to certain sword attributions. While the exact unit or group this item came from is unknown to us, we can tell you that the sword is a true antique designed in a military tradition, it features a unique Gladiator-Knight-Warrior Pommel and has an etched blade and it is not Masonic. The sword is very nice. The fluted white cow-bone grip is highly attractive. Unlike many other examples, it is all solid and fine. Considering its age, the sword is in good, solid vintage condition with some normal expected age wear. The blade has darkened somewhat over the years and there are oxidation smudges. The area nearing the tip appears as if there is residue from where pitting had been succesfuly cleaned up some time back. There are ornate etched designs on both sides. Although the blade is greyish, the etchings are visible. The scabbard has wear and has a light dent, but the sword goes in and out with no problem. This sword is over 150 years old and all age wear aside, this is a really nice historic item. As we stated previously, the grip is quite attractive. We have seen other examples with badly chipped or seriously damaged grips, so we have a good one here. The design shows marvelous old-world craftsmanship. The pommel, guard and quillons have a lovely golden-brass tint. A very classical appearence. The MEDIEVAL GLADIATOR-KNIGHT POMMEL shows nice detail. A sculpture in miniature. The Sword is real old is not mint. But it is a true piece of history and it is genuine. It is hard to see if there are any maker markings underneath the langet. We looked, and we could only detect that there are designs there. While Nathan P. Ames apparently made swords similar to this, we have no idea of who the actual maker was. In any event, the workmanship here is a superb as anything made by “The Ames Sword Company”, “M. C. Lilley & Co”, “The Pettibone Brothers” and “William Horstmann of Philadelphia”. It is a nice item. Ideal for display. The sword, in its scabbard measures approximately 36 ¼ inches. Alone it is about 32 inches. And the blade is around 25 ¼ inches. A genuine antique American relic! Do not let this sword escape you.
