Fine 18c/19c Japanese Mak-ie Lacquer Cosmetic Cabinet Box W Raised Mirror Holder For SaleFor sale we have here a superbly executed 18c/19c Japanese mak-ie lacquer 2 drawer cosmetic cabinet with raised mirror holder with Japanese mixed metal mirror. This wonderful lacquer box was produced in Japan during the Edo period around c1780 to c1830 and was brought back from Japan by a collector in c1962 with a copy of the provenance telling so. The cabinet came with a copy of the photo of the cabinet and was certified by 'The Tokyo Art Club' in November 15 1961 as being an old valuable work of art with a complete description and red stamped and signed as well by the person(s) certifying it and is a seldom found thing and is very important to any antique work of art. The box has a black lacquered ground with several shades of gold mak-ie and takamak-ie having bronze drawer pulls and brackets on the raised mirror stand with engraved designs. The mixed metal mirror has the same designs of flying cranes, pines, turtles and bamboo as the cabinet does but I don't know whether the mirror is original as I believe it is a later addition and the glass is missing. The cabinet sits on (4) low profile feet and still sits level and the lacquer is still bright and the condition overall is excellent with of course some rubbing and surface wear but nothing serious just a few scrapes that appear to have been touched up along with possibly 2 or 3 stress age separations at the sides but again appear to have been touched up and their is a age split across the bottom going with the grain but all in all a real stunner. Sizes: Width 11" x Depth 11" x Height 11-1/2" x Total height with mirror holder 26" and mirror Diameter is 11-1/2" and the handle is 4" x 1-1/2". A superb Japanese lacquer cabinet of good age and would make a great display piece in any decor or collection.
