Fine 19c Continental Porcelain Portrait Plaque La Bella After Titian No Reserve For Sale
FINE 19C CONTINENTAL PORCELAIN PORTRAIT PLAQUE LA BELLA AFTER TITIAN
This listing is for a beautiful 19th century Continental portrait painting on porcelain after Titian. The plaque is framed in an elaborate carved wood and gilt gesso frame. The frame measures 16 by 14 ¼ inches or 40.5 by 36 cm, and is 3 ¼ inches or 8 cm deep. The plaque itself measures 6 by 4 inches or 15 by 10 cm.
The plaque is all hand painted and features the portrait of a beautiful young woman. She sits for her portrait in an elaborate jeweled red and blue dress with braided hair and long necklace. The painting is titled “LA BELLA” and is after the original by the Renaissance artist Titian, who was an important 16th century Italian artist of the Venetian School. The plaque is marked on the back with an impressed “MR” and the number “107”, along with a paper label identifying the piece. The plaque is framed in an elaborate carved wood and gilt gesso frame with a wire hanger on the back.
This is a signed KPM plaque not to be confused with many other German painted porcelain plaques which have the generic name "Berlin" plaques.
The condition of the plaque is excellent. There are some minor repairs to the wood and gesso frame, and age appropriate darkening to the gilding. Please note any white spots are from lighting glare and not on the plaque. Please see the many photographs for more on the look and condition of this fine portrait plaque and frame.
