  • Title: FINE Designer David Yurman 18k White Gold 13-16mm Grey Tahitian Pearl Diamond Necklace
  • Description:
You are now offerding on an impressive designer 18k white gold Tahitian pearl & diamond necklace. Signed by David Yurman, this upscale necklace features HUGE, slightly graduated size 13-16mm round, individually knotted, cultured grey saltwater pearls. This approx 17-1/2" long strand is punctuated with 18k white gold rondelle spacers that twinkle with full cut diamonds adding pizzazz against the soft glow of the large pearls. The pearls are a medium grey color with some very soft green, gold and pink luster in their orient. The necklace finishes with a large white gold lobster claw clasp, also studded with micro-set diamonds. This is regal and opulent showing Yurman's high quality and fine finishing work. This is a one-of-a-kind piece that we acquired from the original owner who worked as a personal shopper for a well known celebrity. They were purchased several years ago at Neiman's in a Yurman trunk show.

  • History of Company: David Yurman grew up on Long Island, N.Y. and took his first steps into the business world while he was in high school by selling small sculptures in the cafeteria. At age 16 he was introduced to Ernesto Gonzales, a Cuban welder & sculptor. David found an outlet in sculpting and this developed over the next two decades while working as an apprentice for two renown sculptors Jacques Lipshitz & Theodore Rozack. David left for California after a year at NYU and found refuge at the beatnik artist colony of Big-Sur. David returned to Greenwich Village in the late 1960's and began working with sculptor Hans Van de Bovenkamp. It was in his studio that David met a gifted painter named Sybil Kleinrock who had also just returned from the same beatnik scene in California. Fortuitously, during an art opening Sybil was wearing one of David's pieces and it caught the attention of the gallery owner who asked if it was for sale. Recognizing an opportunity, the two of them formed Putnam Art Works where they exibited their works and later married by the end of the decade. Their experiences laid the groundwork for the David Yurman brand & company in 1980. He even did a brief stint with Cartier and later Yurman applied to Tiffany who turned him down! He now recalls that as one of the best things that has ever happened to him. By the mid 80's, he made a name for himself with his cable bracelet which has become iconic and a signature style for his line. His rise in the jewelry world was fast with his cable jewelry designs in the mid 1980's. It was a refreshing change, at the time, to have luxury jewelry that could go from day to night and still carry an affordable price tag.
