A lovely, genuine antique, early Edwardian era lady's duster coat, motoring coat, or automobile coat. Princess seaming for a figure flattering silhouette, with a fit n' flare shape. Made of good quality, medium weight Irish linen in a classic natural oatmeal shade, with large and pearly hued abalone shell buttons on the front and on the tabs on each sleeve. Unusual and very large collar (in back and sides) can be worn "standing up" to protect milady's neck and head from smoke and road dust. (the collar is re-inforced with wonderful curved seaming that is hard to see in the photos). Two slash side pockets near the hip (one has never been opened and is till sewn shut). Gently flowing bottom for ease of movement. Nipped in waist area. Upper back, shoulder, and sleeve area are all lined (inside) in this same linen. Re-inforced armholes inside, and good tailoring and seaming throughout the coat. Very well made. Linen is supple and still lovely, and a good medium weight linen (not thin or flimsy and not stiff) with a wonderful smooth "feel" and body to it. A very pretty automobile or motoring coat, with figure flattering lines (not at all boxy looking, gives you a curvy shape). Aside from a horseless carriage ride, this coat also looks fabulous worn at the beach or seaside over your lace walking dress or linen skirt, or for any outdoor historical dress event. I like it worn with a pith helmet and silk scarf, for walks in the jungle or African bush, a la Karen in "Out Of Africa". Or wear it for your next Downton Abbey event! These are getting harder and harder to find, and this one is not only pretty but in overall good shape. Clean. Wearable. Average size. See below for measurements and more details. Dates from circa 1900 to 1912. .

MEASUREMENTS: The length from shoulder top to hem in front is approx 55 1/2". Bust measured from underarms across in the BACK of the coat is 36". Waist (measures about 17" down from the shoulder tops where the nipped in curve occurs) is approx 32" (I think the waist is set slightly higher than natural as was the style). Hips are approx 44", measured approximately 7" down from the nipped in waist. Shoulders are about 15 1/2" across from seam to seam.....Sleeves are 23 1/2"' long, measured along the top to the cuff hem. NOTE: All measurements were taken on the outside of the coat, with the coat buttoned up and laying flat. The buttons could be moved to create more room. The buttons are sewn/set back approx. 4" from the edge of the coat. Please ask if you need more specific information, thank you.

A wonderful coat to wear, for a collection, display, or to study as well. More details after a few photos. I took a lot of photos of this for you. See below the photos for full details on condition and more. Thank you! .

CONDITION is VERY GOOD on most of it...but it does have a few areas with flaws. I am very picky and have many years of experience with this type of garment, and I and look at everything, and I think it is overall in very good shape except for a few of these flaws, none of which keeps the coat from being worn or making a fine display. The coat was well stored in an antique steamer trunk in a private home estate, never put in an attic or basement, and is clean (by that I mean it is not soiled or dirty looking)........no odors......the linen is supple and overall strong, not dry or brittle....the linen has a smooth fresh feel to it.....The color is even, no fading. The coat makes a very nice presentation. I think the basic integrity of the garment is very good. Collar is very good, clean and not worn or soiled up....on the inside back of collar there is some very pale line of discoloration, hard to notice, and 1 tiny hole...not on the outside.... All edges and hems on the coat are really very good to excellent....not worn.....bottom hem is not worn or ripped, and the hem has minimal marks or tiny spots in only a few places and the edges of the hem are not dirty or worn at all..... Seams are very tight and very secure on the coat........no stress to the seams......the abalone shell buttons sewn secure and the buttons are excellent with no chips or cracks. Buttonholes are very good, not worn or ripped.....Tabs on sleeves are excellent, each has 1 missing button (these are super easy to replace). The inside of the coat is very good..........The coat is not stained looking, or soiled... collar and front and back of coat and upper areas, and sleeves, are not soiled or stained....there are a few small spots or dark marks at the bottom front flap area and even then only a small amount of tiny spots)...a few tiny tan spots along the hem but again very very few.....but really much less than expected as this coat was used and loved in its original days....98% of the coat is spot free, really very nice.....The flaws are: As you can see in the photos, on each shoulder top there is some obvious wear and patching repair....most of this hides under the large wide collar and is not seen (really), but it is there and some bit does show....(I think you could use the inside partial lining of linen to patch this and it will look very good afterward) ..again, most if it hides under the large collar which covers most of the shoulder tops.........Underarms are very good, (considering this area is usually damaged) with each having a small spot or 2 spots next to the underarm (not ON the underarm), but nothing serious...and 1 underarm has a tiny hole near the underarm...but the underarms are not soiled up looking, not stained up and not ripping or torn up and not weakening...inside (lining) of armholes/underarms are really very good also......inside of coat is clean and in very good condition, including the inside flaps.....................PLEASE SEE THE PHOTOS.... The photos are part of the description. The sleeves cuffs are clean, really excellent with no wear or soiling to the ends...However 1 of the sleeves does have some holes and tears on the underside of the sleeve...please, see the photos as I do show this for you....again, you could patch this from the inside with the extra fabric from the partial lining....The buttons may have been re-sewn to the coat at 1 time, but they are the original antique shell buttons....So the coat does have some flaws, but overall is really in good shape otherwise......The garment may have a tiny hole, a loose thread, or a small spot that I missed, but I looked it over very well. ..... Comes from a smoke free, pet free home and has been well stored. Offered with a low opening offer and . I do not guarantee this will fit ...... I am selling this as described...... Not perfect, has flaws noted..... .......SELLING AS FOUND, well described. NO RETURNS if I miss some tiny thing, returns will be considered only if I have made some gross error in my description. International shipping is non refundable on returns. Thank you.

PLEASE.... ask if you need more info, as there will be NO RETURNS unless I have made a gross error in my description. I may have missed a tiny thing, but I do try to look for everything as best I can. Please, ask if you need more information, photos or measurements BEFORE you offer. Thank you.
