Description Ahandsome large heavyantique solid sterling silver cigarettebox by the silversmiths Gieves Ltd, ingoodcondition and with full English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1957.Excellent quality example with a hinged silver lid and decorated with attractive engine-turned engraving on the top andwith smooth polished sides. Has its original cedar-wood lined interior which is still ingreat condition and is complete with its removable wood divider. There areno added engraved presentation inscriptions or monograms in the cartouche, possibly something erased at some point.
MeasurementsLarge size, measures approx6.25inches (157mm) x3.5 inches (89mm) and is1.65 inches (43mm) deep.
Date Antique English solid sterling silver with a full set of silver hallmarks forBirmingham 1957(date letter "H").Clear matching hallmarks on the lid too. Stamped "Made In England" on the base.

ConditionGood condition, no splits or cracks to the silver, no solder repairs, definitely no holes and no nasty knocks or dents either, hassome shallow age related dents and bruises.The hinged lid works perfectly, opening and closingproperly & tightly and the interiorwood liningis original andinexcellent condition, not splits or cracks, just a very minor corner stain.Completewith its removable wood divider. Looks to have had an inscription on the front erased at one time.
