Fine Old Northwest Coast Tsimshian Cedar Totem C1920 Eli Tait (1872-1949) For Sale


An amazing old Northwest Coast Tsimshian Indian hand carved and painted totem pole circa 1920. The totem is the work of the famous carver Eli Tait ( 1872-1949) from the Tsimshian village of New Metlakatla Alaska. The totem depicts two Ravens and a and Bear and is an excellent well preserved example of a model of the famous raven totem pole. Illustrated examples and a picture of Eli Tait carving can be found in the publication Carvings and Commerce Model totem poles 1880-2010 by Hall and Glascock on page 96-98. The totem stands 7 1/2" tall with a 2 1/3" x 2 " square base and is signed to the reverse "Eli TaitMetlakatla Alaska" This museum qualitytotem makes a impressive display item and a fine addition to anyone's collection.
