Description A beautifulrare English antiqueVictoriansolid sterling silverchocolate potby the silversmiths HoraceWoodward & Coand with full silver hallmarks forLondon 1890.Excellent quality example,very uncommonto find in sterling silver, and made from a good thick gauge and weighing a heavy 288 grams. Has a hinged silver lid and a superb large polished cow-bone handle with traditional heart-shaped handle mount. Also has a nice straight spout and rests on 4 scrolled cast silver feet and has a detachable cast silver ball lid finial. Entwined monogram of the original owner which would polish out fine if wanted.
MeasurementsMeasures approx5.9 inches (146mm) in height and is7 inches (180mm) wide, including handle.
Date AntiqueVictorian solid sterling silver with a full set of English silver hallmarks for London 1890(date letter "P"). Lovely clear struck marks, with matching hallmarks on the lid too. Alsoengraved with the original retailers name on the base, "Thomas Smith & Sons, Edinburgh", a real sign of quality.

ConditionLovely condition and ready to be used. No splits or cracks, no solder repairs, definitely no holes and no nasty knocks or dentseither, just a few tiny age-related shallow surface bruises but really nothing much.The silver lid hinge works perfectly, opening and closing tightly andthe 4 cast silver scrolled legs are undamaged. Superb large cow-bone handle, 100% original and tight and secure, has age/heat/stress cracks(see photos), as you often find on genuine 19th Century examples but no chips. Engraved entwined monogram, would polish out as the silver is such a thick gauge.
