FINE VICTORIAN VINTAGE 9ct GOLD LARGE DROP DANGLE SCREW BACK EARRINGS:

This is a super pair of Victorian vintage 9ct Gold pair of long drop and pearl composite paste earrings. They are a beautiful dangling pair of Victorian earrings. The earrings are a mixture of 9 and 18 ct gold. the screw backs are a different gold to the rest of the earrings and my jeweller has said that he thinks that the screw backs are the higher grade gold and probably put on in the 1900s to replace what was originally on the earlier Victorian earrings, probably thin gold hooks which would have worn away. It was usual at that time to reuse what you had and as the screw backs are robust solid gold and theycannot be seen it would have been a practical replacement. One of the composite pearl pastes shows a slight space between the pearl and its gold cap and that is purely the movement over the 100 plus years of these antique swing earrings being worn however it does need to be refixed firmly on.
