Fort Sisseton, South Dakota was built in 1864 by Major John Clowney & his command, 30th Wisconsin Volunteers to protect the immigrants & miners from the Sioux, and was first named Fort Wadsworth. An original Civil War Letter from Major Clowney, 30th Wisconsin Inf, at " Head Quarters Garrison for Fort Wadsworth, D.T., In Camp near Fort Ridgley, Minnesota, July 1, 1864" to General George Ramsey, Chief of Ordnance re transmission of his quarterly returns of ordnance & ordnance stores. 1p 8 x 10 ink. Reverse w note fropm Major Clowney noting this is his retained letter. VG.,
