This is a beautiful,2 volume set "An Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry," Written by Albert G. Mackey and Published by the Masonic History Company in 1920. Both volumes are app. 10-1/8" tall by 7-1/2" wide. The set has 913 pp. B&W full page plate of Mackey, tissue guarded color frontispiece of the three graces in volume I. Volume II has a full page plate of William Hughan followed by a tiisue guarded color frontispiece of the four cardinal virtues. Profusely illustrated with numerous color and b&w plates, illustrations & drawings, this set reveals the traditions, customs, symbols, ceremonies, degrees and notable members of the great brotherhood throughout history.

This secret society has had a direct and profound influence on Western culture with famous and prominent figures throughout history being part of the organization. Just to name a scant few of the exhaustive list: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Franklin and Theodore Roosevelt, King Edward VII and King Edward VIII, Sir Ernest Shackleton, Voltaire and Mozart are past brothers of the organization. A complete list would fill pages!!

Overall this is an excellent investment opportunity as these books continue to increase in value and become ever scarcer, as well as a chance to own an authentic piece of Masonic history.

This set is in fairly good condition, some shelfwear to spines & minor rubbing on corners. Endpapers are clean, unmarked. Volume I has minor cracking in the front & rear gutters,The text is clean, white, no foxing, no writing, no torn or missing pages. Volume II gold gilt on page ends is fading, front and rear gutters are cracked, first few pages before title page have chipping along the edges, a few scattered pages have soiling marks, otherwise, the text is clean, no missing or torn pages, the last 4 pages show waterstains. Please note endpapers do not match.

Overall this set is in good condition, with Vol II being a bit worse for the wear than Vol I.
