French Cup Hilt Rapier W/ FlambÉ * Late 16th Century * Rare * Nr * For SaleLATE 16th CENTURY FRENCH CUP HILT RAPIER W/ FLAMBÉBLADE
Here's a very nice late 16th century French rapier up for sale with . The cup hilt on the sword is very nice it shows no damage and is completely hand hammered. The edges on the cup and D guard have the same flambé pattern as the blade. the crossguard is hammered right into the cup. The wrapped wire grip is intact and still very tight. The Pommel is solid and shows some engraving. The blade on the sword is a very rare and desirable flambéor flame like. You don't see many European rapiers with a flambé blade. When you do see a flambé blade is usually French. The blade is in pretty good shape it does show slight separations to the lamination and mild pitting. The overall length of the Sword is 34 inches with a blade length of 27 inches. It is 3/4 of an inch wide and 3/8 inch thick. There is a little play between the blade and the cup hilt. This sword was a very nice patina. I can not find any maker's or armory marks on the sword. All in all a pretty desirable sword that has survived nicely for around 350 years an a nice addition to any sword collection. The last picture is of some other swords I'm going to sale here on this week. I will answer any questions to the best of my ability. Thanks and Good accept Paypal and Personal Checks only.
