French Model 1831 Infantry Sword-chattelerault 1833-w/ Scabbard For Sale
Finecondition and guaranteed original French Model 1831 infantry sword that has the Chatellerault Arsenal marking on the blade and dated 1833. Sword is also marked PIHET FRERES on the opposite side of the blade which refers to the Pihet brothers who provided financial support for the Chatellerault Arsenal. Full length 19 ¼” blade has original bright metal finish with a little scattered gray and brown and was never sharpened. Brass grip has very pleasing deep untouched patina. Fitted in correct original leather scabbard that has brass throat and tip and rates good condition. Leather body shows flaking and cracking, stitched seam has split but scabbard still displays well on sword. Brass throat and tip have deep old patina and show some dents and dings, staples are nice and tight. A textbook all original example of this very rare early French Model 1831 infantry sword that will make an outstanding addition to your collection.
